Ciprofloxacin

Ciprofloxacin is a synthetic broad spectrum antibiotic used for treating infections caused by different bacteria. Ciprofloxacin penetrates many hard to reach tissues in the body and kills a wide variety of bacteria. Ciprofloxacin is also one of the antibiotics approved by the FDA for patients who have been exposed to the inhaled form of anthrax.

Target Indications

Ciprofloxacin is indicated for the treatment of infection caused by susceptible strains of bacteria in the following areas:
  • Skin
  • Lungs
  • Airways
  • Bones
  • Joints
  • Urinary tract

Ciprofloxacin Pharmacology

Ciprofloxacin given as an oral tablet is rapidly and well absorbed from the GI tract. The drug stops multiplication of bacteria by inhibiting the reproduction and repair of their genetic material (DNA).
